Mateo Sušić (Serbo-Croatian pronunciation: [matěo sǔʃitɕ]; born 18 November 1990) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a right back for Moldovan National Division club Sheriff Tiraspol and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Club career

Early career

Sušić started playing football at the local club Brotnjo. At the age of 17, he joined Zrinjski Mostar's youth setup.[2] The following year, he made his professional debut in UEFA Europa League qualifying game against Vaduz.[3]

He stayed there until 2010, when he signed for Croatian club Istra 1961.[4] On 30 October, Sušić scored his first goal as a professional, which proved to be a winning goal for his team in a game against Karlovac.[5]

In 2013, he moved to 2. Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus.[6]

His spell at the German club didn't last long, since he was transferred to CFR Cluj the following year.[7]

Sheriff Tiraspol

Due to financial trouble in Cluj, he left them in 2015 to sign for Sheriff Tiraspol.[8] He became club captain in 2016.[9] In May 2016 Sušić won his first trophy with the club as they became league champions.[10]

In January 2017 Sušić left the club, but returned only a month later, signing a new three-year contract.[11]

International career

Sušić is a former Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 international.[12]

In March 2016 he got his first senior call-up, for friendly games against Luxembourg and Switzerland.[13] Sušić debuted in a comfortable 3–0 win over Luxembourg on 25 March.[14]
