Matiur Rahman Mallik was a national activist who died on 24 January 1969. He was killed by the Pakistani police and he was the son of Azhar Ali Mallik from Sabujbagh, Dhaka.

The event has historic significance and its spirit awakened people to fight for democracy and basic human rights, as it eventually lead to the Independence of Bangladesh. The event is observed as Mass Uprising Day.

He was a Standard IX student of Nabakumar Institution, when he took part in a street march demanding autonomy for Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) and was gunned down by the police of Pakistan.
