Matthew Meadows is a retired Fort Lauderdale, Florida educator and Democratic politician who served as the representative for District 94 of the Florida House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2000, was elected to four successive terms, and was term limited out after 2008. He served in the Florida Senate from 1992 to 1998.
During his time in the Senate, Meadows was a part of an unprecedented effort to pay reparations to the descendants of the victims of the Rosewood massacre. This bill made Florida one of the first and only states to make monetary amends for racialized violence.[1]
Representative Meadows was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on September 5, 1938. He is married to Charley Mae Harris from Macon, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bethune-Cookman College in 1961 and holds an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity.
