Edit protected for a notice for long pages

[edit]

Please replace this page with the following text from the /sandbox:

{{#ifeq:{{NAMESPACE}}|{{ns:0}}|{{#ifexpr:$2 > 100000|{{mbox|type={{#ifexpr:$2 > 1000000 | content | notice }}|text={{#ifexpr:$2 > 1000000 | '''Warning:''' | '''Notice:''' }} This article is exceeding {{#ifexpr:$2 > 1000000 | {{int:size-megabytes|1}} or {{int:size-bytes|1,000,000}} | {{int:size-kilobytes|100}} or {{int:size-bytes|100,000}}}} (Current page size: {{int:size-bytes|{{formatnum:$2}}}}). Large articles are difficult to navigate for readers, and may cause problems with rendering. You may wish to consider [[WP:SPLIT|splitting this article]] or spinning the information into a new article rather than expanding it further.}}}}}}<span style="display:none;">Current page size: $2 (in the $1)</span>

This will produce the following notice on article pages with more than 100,000 bytes:

And the following on article pages with more than a million bytes:

I don't know if this would require consensus, but I do know that such a notice would be helpful to try to make it more apparent to users when a page is too big and should probably be spun off. We could also try stuff for long talk pages as well to remind editors to archive discussions.

This is used in the editor window [1] with the first parameter being the order of scale for the page and the second parameter being the actual page size in bytes. Awesome Aasim 22:23, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This needs a much broader discussion before being implemented. * Pppery * it has begun... 05:55, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
