Melhupra Vero is an Indian politician and the first member of parliament from among the Naga people.[1] Born in the Dimapur city of the Indian state of Nagaland, Vero contested to the Rajya Sabha in 1989 and won the election as an Indian National Congress candidate.[2][3] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to society.[4] On 1 October 2015, the Government of Nagaland honoured him during the International Day of Older Persons celebrations.[5]
