Mewasi

The Mewasi Bhil are a clan of the Bhil ethnic community and are found in the state of Rajasthan, India.

Social status

As of 2001, the Mewasi Bhil were classified as a Scheduled Tribe under the Indian government's reservation program of positive discrimination.[1]


History

The Bhil are the indigenous people of the region, but were either subjugated by Rajput overlords, or pursued into the jungles by the invaders in the 16th century. [2]
