Michael Baden-Powell, 4th Baron Baden-Powell
David Michael Baden-Powell (born Sinoia, Rhodesia, 11 December 1940) is the heir presumptive to the Barony of Baden-Powell and the Baronetcy of Bentley in the United Kingdom and a former accountant and insurance sales agent.
He is the second son of Peter Baden-Powell, 2nd Baron Baden-Powell and Carine Crause-Boardman. He is the brother of Robert Crause Baden-Powell, 3rd Baron Baden-Powell. He is the grandson of Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell and Olave Baden-Powell and great-grandson of Baden Powell.
His parents moved the family to the United Kingdom in 1949. He was educated at Pierrepont School, Frensham, England.[1] He migrated to Australia in April 1965 and married Joan Phillips Berryman on 20 August 1966.[1] They have three children, David Robert Baden-Powell, Alexander Peter Baden-Powell b. 1973 and Myles Warrington Baden-Powell b.1975, all of whom reside with him in the family home Scouts Manor.
Scouting
Michael Baden-Powell is active in Scouts Australia's Victorian Branch[2][3][4] and, as of 2015, is its Commissioner for Special Duties.[5]
On 1 August 2007, Baden-Powell was a guest of The Scout Association of the United Kingdom at the 100th anniversary of the start of the world Scouting movement at Brownsea Island.[6]
In August 2008 Michael Baden-Powell took part in the International Scout and Guide Fellowship's 25th World Conference in Vienna.[7][8]
B-P Jam Rolls Ltd
In 2007, Michael Baden-Powell was instrumental in preserving a caravan trailer, nicknamed Eccles, which had been presented to his grandparents during the 3rd World Scout Jamboree in 1929.[citation needed] A Rolls Royce car, nicknamed Jam Roll, which had been presented to his grandparents at the same time, was sold after his grandfather's death in 1941. The car and caravan were reunited at Gilwell Park for the 21st World Scout Jamboree in 2007. Paul Moniyhan, then The Scout Association's archivist, found the car and its owner prior to the Jamboree and made the original proposal to purchase it. Michael Baden-Powell, John Ineson, Tony Harvey and Stephen Hilditch formed the charitable company "B-P Jam Roll Ltd." which obtained a loan and purchased the car. Funds were raised to repay the loan.[9][10]
Freemasonry
Baden-Powell was Master of Baden-Powell Lodge no. 488 in Victoria. This Lodge, chartered in 1930, was the first to be named after his grandfather who donated the Volume of Sacred Law in 1931. The lodge was founded by Scouters and has close links to Scouting. He remains an active member.[2][11][12]
In June 2007, within the Centenary year of Scouting, Baden-Powell addressed Freemasons and Scouts, and non-Masonic Scouters, at meetings of Pioneer Lodge in the County of Derbyshire and Walesby Forest Lodge in the County of Nottinghamshire (both in United Grand Lodge of England, and also both lodge members of the Kindred Lodges Association).[13]
