Michael Christopher Wendl is a mathematician and biomedical engineer who developed much of DNA sequencing theory[1] and co-wrote Phred,[2] a widely used DNA trace analyzer.[3][4] His result for the multiple-group birthday proposition[5] solves various "collision problems", including overlap quantification in DNA fragment mapping and some types of P2P searching.[6] He obtained the general solution of the Couette problem,[7] for which only various idealized results had existed previously.[8]

Wendl is of ethnic German heritage and is the son of the aerospace engineer Michael J. Wendl.[9]
