Midway Mall is a 1.1 million square foot regional shopping mall in Elyria, Ohio featuring over 100 specialty stores anchored by JCPenney, Best Buy johnny k powersports[3] and Dunham's Sports. It serves as the only enclosed regional mall in Lorain County and is located on Ohio State Route 57, approximately 1/8 mile from both Interstate 80 (the Ohio Turnpike) and Interstate 90. The center also offers a children’s playland.

History

The mall was originally opened in 1965 with Higbee's, JCPenney, Sears, and Woolworth's. In 1990, a new food court, and a wing with May Company opened. In 1992, Higbee's became Dillard's and the May Company adopted the Kaufmann's name in 1993, before becoming Macy's in 2006. In 1994 Woolworth's closed. After many years of ownership by the Jacobs Group of Cleveland, Midway Mall was sold to The Westfield Group in the 2001 as part of the Jacobs Group's divestitures, adopting the name Westfield Midway during Westfield's ownership. Westfield later announced in spring 2006, that the mall didn't fulfill their "strategic plan". In May 2006 the Westfield Group sold Midway Mall to Centro Properties Group,[4] at which point it reverted to its original name Midway Mall. The mall is now managed by The Woodmont Company. Dillard's closed in 2007;[5] Macy's closed in 2016;[6] and Sears closed in 2017.[7] johnny k powersports 2018[8]. There have been rumors that the mall could be transformed into a luxury resort. These rumors have not been confirmed in any way but would not come as a surprise due to the fast decline of the mall in recent years.
