Minutemen is a 2008 adventure-comedy-sci-fi Disney Channel Original Movie. It stars Jason Dolley from Disney Channel Original Series Cory in the House. [2] The movie is written by John Killoran with a story by David Diamond & David Weissman. [3] Lev L. Spiro is set to direct this DCOM. Andrew Gunn, Ann Marie Sanderlin and Doug Sloan are the executive producers. [2] The movie was originally slated for release in March 2008, however [4] according to Minutemen's official site, the movie will air on January 25, 2008.

Plot

Three high school kids invent a time machine out to spare others just like them from the humiliation they've endured. Charlie Tuttle (Luke Benward) is the under-aged genius who designed the time machine, Zeke Thompson (Nicholas Braun) is the metal shop "biker guy" who built it, and Virgil Fox (Jason Dolley) is the leader of this timely trio who discovered that turning the clock back turns into a real mess. Soon enough trouble stirs, then the Feds are after them, and there's a black hole.[2]

Cast

  • Jason Dolley as Virgil Fox, a 17-year-old high schooler. He had a typical first day of high school...if you can call being hung up on a giant ram statue in cheerleader’s clothes "typical." Three years later he’s sitting at the cafeteria’s nerd table, still trying to live down the events of that fateful day. But now his genius friend Charlie has come up with a way to reverse the curse. With the help of their new friend Zeke, Virgil and Charlie build fide time machine that lets them turn back the clock and fix embarrassing events before they ever happen. These three secret champions of the unfortunate call themselves the Minutemen, and they fast become big men on campus. Of course, there’s a girl involved... Virgil is determined to win back the beautiful Stephanie by going back in time to change her mind. But toying with one’s own fate can backfire. Now the whole world is hanging in the balance and hopefully Virgil will be just in time to be the hero.
  • Chelsea Staub as Stephanie Jameson, the prettiest and smartest girl in school. She's all beauty and brains, good at cheerleading and calculus. No wonder Virgil's been carrying a torch for Stephanie since freshman year of high school. She's been going steady with Derek the handsome quarterback, but she's steadily drifting back towards the guy who knows her, heart and soul. Now she's got to decide whether to stay with the big man on campus, or take a chance on the guy who's willing to bend time, just to spend more time with her.
  • J.P. Manoux as Vice Principal Tolkan, a leader in his own mind, Vice Principal Tolkan lost his hair a long time ago, now he's just trying to hold onto what little respect he can. But it's not easy when the kids know just how to play you, like bribing you with coins when the machine won't take your dollar bill, or conning you into letting them set up a time machine laboratory in the school basement. Rest assured, someone's going to get detention for all this time travel non-sense, if he can ever find out who it is.
  • Luke Benward as Charlie Tuttle, Summerton High’s resident genius at 14. An under-aged, pint-sized ball of energy, he is on the verge of bending time. But he needs a little help from his friends. Zeke has the mechanical skills to build the time machine, and Virgil is just crazy enough to be the first one to try it. Together they are the Minutemen, sworn to help fellow students get out of embarrassing situations before they happen. But Charlie soon discovers their trips back into the past are creating a black hole and they don’t have a minute to spare. This Junior Einstein needs to beat the clock, fool the Feds, save the planet, and hopefully not turn red when Jeanette gives him a victory kiss.
  • Nicholas Braun as Zeke Thompson, that guy who can make anything in shop class and make you shut up with one icy stare. Tall, dark, and mysterious, he happens to be just the guy Virgil and Charlie need to join the Minutemen and build the time machine. Handy in a crisis, and always ready with a snappy comeback line, this rebel with a cause will do everything he can to keep time on their side. Rough around the edges, but smooth with his female admirers, he's a character you'll grow to like and respect--or else.
  • Steven R. McQueen as Derek Beauregard, Virgil's ex-best friend. He and Virgil were best pals as incoming freshmen, until Derek chose being popular over being a good friend. Four years later, he's quarterback and leader of the football team, and the boyfriend of the incomparable Stephanie, who Virgil not-so-secretly adores. When Derek fumbles away the big game, he needs the Minutemen's help to give him an instant replay--but does he deserve another shot, or deserve to be shot down? This play is still under review.
  • Kara Crane as Jeanette Pachelewski, Charlie's crush, quirky clothes, crazy hair, and a smile that lights up the room, Jeanette is one of those people that never seems to have a bad day. She’s crazy for birds, and has a soft spot for young Charlie Tuttle. Jeanette gets to be one of the guys when she discovers their secret time machine. Her job is to flip the “on” switch, hope they come back in one piece, and help them work on those awkward landings. When things get weird, can Jeanette help the Minutemen close the black hole, retain their popularity and save the planet?
  • Dexter Darden as Chester, one of the nerds. You don't meet a guy named Chester every day--and maybe that's a good thing. Chester holds court at the geek table at lunchtime, and is the sergeant-in-arms to "Commander Tuttle" in the computer lab. But luckily the Minutemen have his back when the jocks steal his clothes in the locker room, giving him stylish threads that turn him into the one of the most popular guys on campus. Who says the clothes don't make the man?

Production

Disney Channel first released an official press via its press release website DisneyChannelMedianet.com on July 14, 2007 to confirm the production of Minutemen. The lead star, plot, writers, director and executive producers of this movie was also announced in this press. In addition, another 2008 DCOM named Camp Rock scheduled to begin production in August 2007 was also confirmed in the same press. [2]

Location

Minutemen is being filmed at Murray High School in Murray, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City. The Disney Channel Original Movie Read It and Weep was also filmed at Murray High, which is ironic as Jason Dolley also had a role in Read It and Weep. The football field scenes were filmed at Highland High School located in Sugar House, also a neighborhood of Salt Lake City.

Soundtrack

The first single of the movie, "Run It Back Again" by Corbin Bleu has been released.
