Stalmine

Just looking for a bit of assistance. Using the Google Earth programme, I noted Stalmine's coordinates as 53°53'52.91 N, -2°57'14.43 W, but that put the marker outside (I think) of the county boundary. By a process of trial and error, I adapted the coordinates to 53°90'10 N, -2°90'14.47 W, which places the marker more or less where it should be. I generally use Google Maps. Once you have searched for the location you want you need to double click on the point you want to centre the map at. Then click on "Link to this page" (top right) this will bring up a box with an address of the form http://www.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=53.811124,-3.05554&spn=0.003098,0.007231&z=17&om=1. In this case the co-ordinates at the selected centre point are 53.811124,-3.05554.

If you previously searched for a location then recentred the URL will contain both the original search and the recentred location in the form http://www.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=53.811124,-3.05554&ie=UTF8&ll=53.749294,-2.482932&spn=0.003102,0.007231&z=17&om=1 in this case you want the second set. For example here the re-centred point is 53.749294,-2.482932. Hope this helps Pit-yacker 22:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can also use http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm. If you search for a locality (and find it!) it will provide you with the OS grid reference. Pop that reference in your infobox, click on it and it will generate the co-ordinates. Just an alternative way of doing it. Jza84 00:28, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
