Moneris is Canada’s largest financial technology company that specializes in payment processing[2].[citation needed] Moneris was established in December 2000 as a joint venture between the Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal.[3] The company is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario and has a contact centre in Sackville, New Brunswick.[4] Moneris’ U.S. operations (formerly known as Harris Bank Merchant Services/The Charge-It-System) were based in Schaumburg, Illinois, until being sold in November 2016 to Vantiv.[5]

Moneris processes more than 3 billion transactions a year for over 350,000 merchant locations, and employs more than 1,900 people across North America.[6]

History

2000 – Moneris established. Becomes first Canadian acquirer to offer both VISA and MasterCard merchant accounts in one single point of contact

2003 – Acquired Ernex Marketing Technologies, a gift and loyalty card processor primarily based in Burnaby, British Columbia[7]

2005 – Processed Canada’s first Visa-certified EMV transaction[8]

2005 – Processed Canada’s first Interac Online transaction[9]

2007 – Became one of the first acquirers in Canada to be certified by Interac Association, MasterCard and VISA to deliver EMV technology[10]

2008 – Acquired Keycorp Canada, one of the largest providers of POS support services[11]
