Mugo Kibati is the current Group CEO of Pan Africa Insurance Holdings Limited, leading a team overseeing the expansion of the business from life to general insurance, investments and asset management.

Biography

Presently, Kibati is the Chairman of Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited, It will be the largest inward investment into Kenya since its independence, and when completed will be the largest wind farm in Africa. In February 2016, Kibati was appointed the Chairman of M-Kopa solar, a mobile company that has established an innovative way to make energy affordable to low income earners.

In July 2009, Kibati was appointed Director General of Kenya Vision 2030, in that role, Kibati spearheaded the implementation of Kenya Vision 2030, the official national strategy to transform Kenya into a newly industrialized country by the year 2030.

During his tenure, Kibati, with the support of his colleagues in government, the private sector and civil society, laid the foundation for structured national transformation. He is also credited with rallying diverse stakeholders toward consensus on the pathway to economic growth and social development.

He is the former CEO and Group Managing Director of the East African Cable where for four years until June 2008, he led a team that expanded life insurance to general insurance, assets and investment management. As an engineer, Kibati worked at Lucent Technologies in the United States as a Technical Marketing Manager.

He also worked at the Bamburi Cement Company Limited (Lafarge copee) from November 1991 to May 1997 and at the Kenya Petroleum Refineries in Mombasa Kenya. Kibati is currently the CEO at Pan Africa Insurance Holdings, an insurance and investment company and a member of Sanlam Group that provides solutions to institution and individual clients.

Kibati has served on several corporate boards, such as I&M Bank and the Apollo Group. He has also held top national industry leadership positions including at the Federation of Kenya Employers, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance.

He has been a part of the Board of Governors and has chaired the Old Boys' Association of the Alliance High School for several years.

Kibati has an M.S., in Technology and Policy, which entails management combining engineering, management and policy from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

MBA/MA, International Business Finance and International Economics from George Washington University School of Business.

European Union Economics from Oxford University, St. Peters College, where he took a Summer Semester Programme on European Union Economics and Dynamics.
