The Municipality of Cerknica (pronounced [ˈtseːɾknitsa] ; Template:Lang-sl) is a municipality in the Karst region of southwestern Slovenia, with a population of 11,350 in 2012. The seat of the municipality is the town of Cerknica. It belongs to the traditional region of Inner Carniola.[2]
The best-known landmark of the municipality is Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake and the largest lake in Slovenia, south of the town of Cerknica. Various watersports including windsurfing are popular on the lake.
