My Son Is Gay is 2016 Tamil-language Indian feature film. The independent film is written and directed by Lokesh Kumar, a filmmaker from Chennai, India. My son is gay showcases the dark reality of acceptance prevailing in our society.[1][2][3]

Plot

Lakshmi discovers her son Varun is gay, the fact that she could never accept, changes her whole life upside down. While Varun goes out and finds his love Karthik, his life isn’t as happy as in the past. There comes a day, Lakshmi decides to find her lost son, will they ever meet again?

Through Varun’s eyes we learn what it is to be a homosexual. How hard it is to understand being a homosexual and how it affects the person psychologically. What difficulties they face in leading a normal life with the society and what hard times they face in being accepted by their families.

Lakshmi,Head Mistress of a school and her son Varun are under emotional chaos that questions people’s common mind set, belief, trust, overcoming the social stigma, psychological acceptance of a person in leading a guilt free life.

Production

The project began in 2013, as Hindi language feature film. The makers attempted to crowdfund the film but the fund wasn't sufficient for the making. Hence the makers returned the funds to public, the project went on hold for almost two years. Nakshatra Bagwe, one of the lead actors announced that he has officially left the project to look after his mother who is suffering from the breast cancer. In early 2016, makers announced that the film is now being made in Tamil. A lot of old cast and crew members had been replaced in the second attempt. The film completed the principal photography by April, 2016 and currently in post production. The film is expected to be completed by November, 2016.[4][5][6]
