Biography

Nanna was raised in Garður, a town in southwestern Iceland.[2] As a youth, Nanna attended music school. Before Of Monsters and Men had been established, Nanna had a solo musical project called Songbird and was a video store clerk.[3]

Of Monsters and Men

Since expanding her Songbird phase, Nanna recruited five male musicians (Ragnar Þórhallsson, Brynjar Leifsson, Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson, Kristján Páll Kristjánsson, and Árni Guðjónsson) that eventually became Of Monsters and Men in 2010. After a week of being together, they participated, and won, Músíktilraunir. This win contributed to much of their fame.

They released three singles called "Little Talks","Mountain Sound" and "King and Lionheart", and music videos for each. These videos have several million views on YouTube, the one for Little Talks having the most views.

On 4 May 2013, Of Monsters and Men were the musical act on Saturday Night Live.[4]

Artistry

Nanna cites some of her favorite musicians/influences are Gayngs, Lianne La Havas, Leslie Feist and Justin Vernon, of the alt-folk band Bon Iver.[5] She also states she would love to collaborate with Bon Iver one day.[6]
