Narges Abyar (Persian: نرگس آبیار) (born 1970 in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian author, film director and screenwriter,[1] best known for directing Trench 143.[2] This film is adapted from Abyar’s novel titled The Third Eye narrating the story of a woman and her son during the time of the Iran–Iraq War.[3]

Biography

Abyar graduated in Persian literature; she has written several story and fiction books for children, young adults and also adults.[4] She began her directing career with the film Objects in mirror are closer than they appear in 2005 and some short films and documentaries, most of them are about the Iran–Iraq War.[5]

Personal life

Abyar is the wife of Mohammad Hosein Ghasemi the producer of cinema.[6]

She started writing books in 1997, So far she has written 30 story and fiction books, most of them are about Iran-Iraq war but neither of them has translated to English.

Awards

She has received two awards from Fajr International Film Festival for Trench 143 and she has also received several national awards. Her movie won Audience Award for Best Film at annual Reel Sydney Festival of World Cinema. Trench 143 premiered at Iran’s 2014 Fajr International Film Festival and garnered rave reviews by critics and audience.[10] Her film invited to Los Angeles film festival,too.[11] Abyar has received some prizes for her books and documentaries.
