New Bern High School is a high school in New Bern, North Carolina whose students come from the New Bern, Trent Woods, Brices Creek, Bridgeton, and James City area. It is located in Craven County. The student population is approximately 1,671 not including 165 faculty and staff members.[1] The student-teacher ratio is approximately 14:1.

Athletic program

The athletic program offers football, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, tennis, track and field, volleyball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, swimming, and soccer. New Bern High School also offers cheerleading, drill team, marching band, color guard, and winter guard. In the fall of 2009, New Bern High School joined the 4A Mideastern Conference. The conference is made up of New Bern, Ashley, Laney, Hoggard, New Hanover, D.H. Conley, and J.H. Rose. The football team plays their home games at Caruso-Coates Stadium, located on campus. It is also home to the men's soccer team in the fall, and the women's soccer team in the spring. Boykin Field, also located on campus, is home to the baseball team. The basketball team hosts their games in the gymnasium. The wrestling team and volleyball team hold their home matches in the gym as well. The men's and women's golf teams play their home matches at New Bern Golf & Country Club. The swim team holds their meets at New Bern's YMCA. The tennis, track and field, cross-country, and softball teams host their events on campus, at their respective facilities.

Ed Campbell has been the tennis coach of the conference champion Bears for the past 10 years. He is known for his agile coaching technique and is also the Graphics teacher at NBHS.

On December 10, 2007 the New Bern Bears beat the Charlotte Independence High Patriots for the state 4AA championship in football.

On November 30, 2012 the Bears became the North Carolina 4A State Champions by beating Porter Ridge High School (Indian Trail) 39-38.

New Bern High School started their first winter guard team in the winter 2013. The team won 4th place at the AIA Championships on March 29, 2014.

The New Bern Track Team participated in the 2009 Arkansas High School Invitational. New Bern runners ran the third fastest high school 4×200 relay (1:27.02) on record and their 4×400 relay ran the fastest time in the country (2009) at 3:13.06.
