The New Era is a daily national newspaper owned by the government of Namibia.[1] The newspaper is one of four daily national newspapers in the country. It is published in English and five indigenous languages. New Era was established in 1991 as a weekly newspaper and was later published only bi-weekly. It appears daily since 2004.[2]

Due to its ownership it is perceived to be SWAPO-friendly. Its competitors are the independent papers The Namibian (English and indigenous languages), Die Republikein (Afrikaans and English) and Allgemeine Zeitung (German).
