The New Local Government Network (NLGN) is a United Kingdom think tank which was founded in 1996. Its director is Simon Parker, previously of Demos, the Institute for Government and the Confederation of British Industry.[1]

NLGN describes itself as a non-profit-making, independent think tank that seeks to transform public services, revitalise local political leadership, and empower local communities. Members of the board include Sir Steve Bullock, Tony Travers, Ben Lucas, Peter John, Ruth Dombey, Deborah Cadman and Gerry Stoker. Its current chair is Dame Jane Roberts, former leader of Camden Council. Former directors include Chris Leslie, former Labour MP for Shipley, between 2005 and his re-election to Parliament for Nottingham East in the general election of 2010.

For the past five years[when?] NLGN has focused primarily on supporting councils to innovate in the face of substantial cuts. Key themes have included municipal entrepreneurship, commissioning, public health and the future of two-tier local government. In 2013 NLGN published Gaming the Cuts, looking at new ways for councils to approach budgeting in times of austerity.[2]

NLGN is politically neutral and has member councils from all parties and all tiers of government.
