Nikolai Sukhanov

Nikolai Nikolaevich Sukhanov (10 December 1882 – 29 June 1940) was a Russian Menshevik Internationalist.

Nikolai Sukhanov was born in Moscow. While still at high school he became involved in a socialist group soon joining the Socialist Revolutionary Party. Following his arrest in 1904 forbeing in possession of illegal literature he was given a one-year prison sentencein the Taganka Prison. Upon release he got involved in the 1905 Revolution. He was a contributor to Russkoe Bogatstvo (Russian Wealth)and published a several books on agricultural economics.

He was re-arrested in 1910 and sentenced to exile in Archangel. Following his selease in 1913 he returned to St. Petersburg. Here he son became editor of the radical journals Letopis (Chronicle) and Sovremennik' (Contemporary).[1]

In 1917 he was on the executive committee of the Petrograd Soviet. He became an editor of Novaya Zhizn

Sukhanov had been friendly with Anatoly Lunacharsky but did not follow the latter after he had joined the Bolsheviks.
