Nippulanti Manishi (English:Fire like Man) is a 1974 Telugu Action film, produced by Y. V. Rao under the Ravi Chitra Films banner and directed by S. D. Lal. It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Latha in the lead roles, with music composed by Satyam. The film is a remake of the blockbuster Hindi film Zanjeer (1973), starring Amitabh Bachan and Jaya Bhaduri in pivotal roles. The film was recorded as a Super Hit at the box office.[1][2]
Plot
Pratap (Tyagaraju) works for a Pharmaceutical company which makes duplicate drugs and he was caught by Police. But he is released as innocent because there is no evidence. At the time of his release, Inspector (Kantha Rao) advises and warns him that A man who plays with fire will be burnt in same fire so, it's better that he change his lifestyle. Pratap keeps a deaf ear, but when he reaches home he realizes his blunder when he comes to know that his daughter died due to duplicate medicines. Pratap meets their chief Jagadish Chandra Prasad (Prabhakar Reddy) and says that he is leaving this profession. On that night, Jagadish kills Pratap and his wife and their son Vijay sees the crime and notices the chain in the Jagadish's hand. Inspector takes care of Vijay and rears him along with his son.
Years roll by, Vijay (N. T. Rama Rao) becomes an honest police officer in a town where few are just. He receives complaints about a local goon, Sher Khan (Satyanarayana). Though Sher Khan runs illegal businesses he is very kind-hearted and good-natured person. When Vijay calls Sher Khan for questioning, he denies his police authority. Vijay takes him up on his challenge, meets him and the quarrel arises. At the end of the quarrel, Sher Khan is defeated, but has gained respect for Vijay. Now Sher Khan changes his lifestyle and becomes a mechanic. Vijay gets calls from a mysterious man (Relangi) regarding various underworld dealings headed by Jagadish. Once Vijay chases a lorry when an accident perpetrated by gang members leaves several children dead. A witness, a street performer named Lakshmi (Latha), is bribed by Jagadish's men to keep quiet. When she is questioned by Vijay, he becomes enraged at her denying she knows anything, but after seeing the dead bodies of the children, she changes her heart and recognizes the culprit. On that night, Jagadish's men follow her, she is chased through and lands at Vijay's house. Vijay gives her shelter and slowly both of them fall in love.
Eventually, Jagadish traps Vijay in a false bribery case and he is jailed for 6 months. When he is released, he plans to take revenge. But Lakshmi begs him to stop being so vengeful and he agrees. But soon he gets a call from the mysterious man who asks him to come to the burial ground, he says his name is David and reveals his story that his 3 sons are killed due to illicit liquor made by Jagadish's gang. Now he has gathered complete information regarding that gang. After hearing this news, Vijay becomes depressed, torn between his desire to help the grieving David, and his need to keep his promise to Lakshmi. Seeing it, Lakshmi takes back her vow and says that he must do what is right. Sher Khan also joins hands with Vijay, both of them destroy the entire kingdom of Jagadish Chandra Prasad and also recognize him by the chain to his wrist as the same person who murdered his parents. Finally, Vijay stamps him out and gets back his position.
