Nolan Gerard Funk (born July 28, 1986) is a Canadian actor, Broadway performer, recording artist, and dancer best known for his performance as Hunter Clarrington in the musical comedy-drama television series Glee and Conrad Birdie in the 2009 Broadway revival of the musical Bye Bye Birdie.
Life and career
Funk has an older sister named Natanya. He started out as a national gymnast and diver. He is also fluent in French and German. He received his first break when cast in the starring role of the Columbia Records/Nickelodeon movie, Spectacular! opposite Tammin Sursok. Nolan appeared opposite Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, and Elisabeth Shue in House at the End of the Street, which was released theatrically by Relativity Media on September 21, 2012. Funk recently shot "Evidence" opposite Stephen Moyer for the producers of "Drive" and starred in the ABC Family Pilot "Intercept" which the network recently announced they were not picking up.
On January 12, 2009, he had his first live concert performance, appearing at New York City's Hard Rock Cafe.[1] He also had a guest role in the television series Castle.
Nolan played the title role of singer Conrad Birdie in the revival of the Broadway musical Bye, Bye Birdie, with a limited run at Henry Miller's Theatre from September 10, 2009 (previes) through January 24, 2010.[2]
Nolan recently completed filming the third movie in the Chronicles of Riddick series with Vin Diesel. He plays a mercenary named Luna. The film is due out in 2013. He shot a starring role in "The Canyons" opposite Lindsay Lohan, directed by Paul Schrader, written by Brett Easton Ellis. On October 2, 2012 Nolan joined the cast of Glee. He will play the Warbler's new frontman, Hunter.
Activism
Funk is involved with Nickelodeon's The Big Green Help, which promotes environmental awareness among children and teenagers.[3]
Awards
In 2007, Funk was nominated for a Leo Award in the "Best Performance or Host in a Youth or Children's Program or Series" category for his work on Renegadepress.com.[4]
