Non Stanford (born 8 January 1989) is a British professional triathlete and the 2013 ITU Triathlon World Champion.[1]

Early life

Stanford was born in Swansea, and raised in West Wales. Her first club was Swansea Harriers.

Career

Stanford was a successful cross country runner, who started studying Sport and Exercises Sciences at the University of Birmingham. In summer 2008 she changed to swim training because of an injury, and then joined the university's triathlon club.

In the 2009 British Triathlon Super Series she came second, and in 2009/10 was awarded the 'Paul Weston Triathlon Scholarship' to concentrate on triathlon.[2] After graduating in 2010, in the same year she won the bronze medal at the Premium European Cup in Brasschaat. In the same year Stanford also took part in the prestigious French Club Championship Series Lyonnaise des Eaux and represented Montpellier Agglo Tri. Her current French Grand Prix team is the TCG 79 Parthenay team.

Relocating to the British Triathlon base at Leeds Metropolitan University, she now trains alongside Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, and shares a rented flat with Vicky Holland. In 2012 Stanford won the ITU Triathlon U23 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. In 2013, she became the first woman to step up from U23 level and win the senior world title, at London's Hyde Park, with team mate Jodie Stimpson finishing second.

Non joined ECS Triathlon club in 2016.[3]

Non competed in Rio 2016 just missing out on a bronze medal to teammate Vicky Holland.[4]
