Northern Speed Tangent ([Северна скоростна тангента, Severna Skorostna Tangenta] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help)) or Sofia Northern Bypass is a planned[nb 1] dual carriageway, grade separated road with controlled-access, designed for high speeds. It shall bypass the Bulgarian capital Sofia from north with the purpose to carry the transit traffic, which otherwise has to pass through the city or via Sofia ring road.

Importance

The bypass will connect 4 motorways - A1 Trakia motorway (via Sofia ring road), A2 Hemus motorway, the future Kalotina motorway and A6 Lyulin motorway. Also, Northern speed tangent connects 3 Pan-European corridors - IV, VIII and X.

Tender

In 2012, a tender for construction was announced.[4] Construction works are expected to begin in 2013.[5][6]
