Production
Soderbergh and George Clooney initially downplayed the possibility of an Ocean's Fourteen or subsequent sequels due to Bernie Mac's death in 2008.[2] However, a new Ocean's Eleven spin-off with an all-female cast led by Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean character was in development as of October 2015. It was conceived by producer Jerry Weintraub, Soderbergh and Clooney. Olivia Milch is to write the screenplay, and Gary Ross is to direct.[3][4] Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Elizabeth Banks were later announced to star in the film.[5]
During pre-production, the film's working title was Ocean's Ocho.[6] In August 2016, Bullock, Blanchett, Bonham Carter and Kaling were confirmed to star, with Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina and Sarah Paulson closing deals to fill the cast.[7][8] During production on the film, Dakota Fanning and Damian Lewis were spotted on set.[9][10] On November 11, 2016, Richard Robichaux was also cast in the film.[11] That same month, Matt Damon confirmed he would appear in the film, reprising his role from Ocean's Trilogy.[12][13][14]
