Philip Billard Municipal Airport (IATA: TOP, ICAO: KTOP, FAA LID: TOP) is a public airport three miles (5 km) northeast of downtown Topeka, the capital city of Kansas and the county seat of Shawnee County. It is owned by the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority.[1]
It was Topeka's airline airport until 1976. In the 1940s TWA, Continental and Braniff stopped there, and Ozark appeared for a couple years starting around 1951. Braniff left in 1953-54 and Continental in 1961; Central replaced TWA in 1958 and successor Frontier lasted until 1976.
Facilities and aircraft
Philip Billard Municipal Airport covers 920 acres (370 ha) and has three runways:[1]
- 4/22: 3,002 x 100 ft (915 x 30 m) Asphalt
- 13/31: 5,099 x 100 ft (1,554 x 30 m) Asphalt
- 18/36: 4,331 x 75 ft (1,320 x 23 m) Asphalt
In 2004 the airport had 65,800 aircraft operations, average 180 per day: 96% general aviation, 3% military and 2% air taxi. 88 aircraft are based at this airport: 78% single engine, 11% multi-engine (10), 6% helicopters, 3% ultralights and 1% jet aircraft.[1]
