Pinay Pie is a 2003 Filipino comedy film, directed by award-winning multi-genre director Jose Javier Reyes.[1] The film was released to Philippine theaters on September 3, 2003. It stars Joyce Jimenez, Assunta De Rossi and Ai-Ai de las Alas on the lead roles. It is a film about girl power. De las Alas plays Yolly, an aging woman who searches for the man of her dreams. De Rossi plays Love, a beautiful young lady who wants to be famous, and Jimenez plays Karen, an overly hardworking woman.
The film's producer, Star Cinema Productions Inc. owned by ABS-CBN, borrowed actors Brad Turvey and Edward Mendez, from rival TV network, GMA-7 Artist Center. Due to the strong box-office result of Ang Tanging Ina (2003), the scenes of Ai-Ai de las Alas in the film were extended.[2]
Ai-Ai Delas Alas scenes were extended at the rest of the scene then Joyce Jimenez and Assunta De Rossi in the first ladder of the movie.
Plot
The film tells a funny story about three fantastic and fearless female friends. Karen (Joyce Jimenez) is the smart and fashionable one among the three. She works for a girls magazine, and later catches her boyfriend, Artie (Rafael Rosell), in bed with another woman, Greta (Jenny Miller). Love (Assunta De Rossi) is the cousin of Karen. She works in the cosmetics section of a department store, and dreams of becoming a beauty queen someday, thus, making her a regular contestant of beauty competitions. Yolly (Ai-Ai de las Alas) is the businesswoman of the group. She is into the buy and sell business, wherein she buys clothes from ukay-ukay only to sell them as brand new and original. The story runs when Love joins the Diyosa ng Kagandahan 2003 contest, where they find out that her roommate, Greta, is the new girlfriend of Karen's philandering boyfriend, Artie, and the kinakapatid of Yolly's boyfriend policeman, SPO Pablito (Carlos Agassi), who dumped her. They also see this girl cuddling up with one of the judges of the contest, George Collins (Carlo Maceda). Karen, Love and Yolly tire out all their efforts for Love to win the contest and teach their ex-boyfriends a valuable lesson.[3]
Cast
- Joyce Jimenez as Karen: An intelligent hardworking and fashionable lady who works in a women's magazine company. It is mentioned in the film that she was a magna cum laude at the University of the Philippines. She later discovers that her boyfriend, Artie, is sleeping with another woman. In the end, her enemy, Butch, becomes her lover.
- Assunta De Rossi as Love: The cousin of Karen, who works in the cosmetics section of a department store and is being courted by Elmo. Though she has the beauty but rarely has the brain, she dreams of becoming a beauty queen, and therefore, has joined almost all of the pageants she has heard of, but has never won. She found a chance when she joins Diyosa ng Kagandahan 2003 beauty contest, but Greta and George Collins try to bring her down.
- Ai-Ai de las Alas as Yolly: An aging businesswoman who buys clothes from ukay-ukay and sells them as brand new and original. She hopes to find the man of her dreams. She met handsome policeman SPO Pablito, whose mother broke them apart. One day while she was digging clothes from the ukay, she stumbles to two cute young boys Jason and Jonas, who both courted her later.[4]
- Vhong Navarro as Butch: The boss of the men's magazine company that rivals Karen's. He was the worst enemy of Karen, until they got to spend time together and he became her lover.[5]
- Onemig Bondoc as Elmo: A weird-looking nerd, who courts Love and later, becomes her boyfriend. He is always there for Love.
- Carlos Agassi as SPO Pablito: The policeman who cannot handle his relationship with Yolly because of being a Mama's Boy. He tries to avoid Yolly, because it is what his mother wants. Later, Yolly dumps him.
- Rafael Rosell as Artie: Karen's ex-boyfriend, who cheated on her, sleeping with another woman in her apartment who turned out to be Love's closest rival for Diyosa ng Kagandahan.
- Jenny Miller as Greta: The woman who slept with Karen's ex-boyfriend, tried to take down Love and is the cousin of Yolly's ex-boyfriend.
- Brad Turvey as Jason: One of the two cute boys that Yolly met in the ukay-ukay. He later courted Yolly.
- Edward Mendez as Jonas: One of the two cute boys that Yolly met in the ukay-ukay. He later courted Yolly.

- Tiya Pusit as Tarcing: Yolly's mother, who always reminds her that she is getting old, and that she must find someone who will love her for what she is.
- Carlo Maceda as George Collins: One of the judges of Diyosa ng Kagandahan 2003. A dashing guy on the lookout for girls to score, he hits on Love first and later on posts inappropriate photos of her on the internet. Upon meeting Love's rival Greta, he starts a rendezvous with her despite the fact that Greta is taken.
- Manny Castañeda as Edward Lucero: the organizer of Diyosa ng Kagandahan pageant who made sure Love never wins the contest. When Love finally wins in his pageant, he tries one last time to steal the crown from the rightful winner but fails to succeed.
- Vangie Labalan as Ursula: SPO Pablito's witch mother, who breaks him and Yolly apart.
