[edit]- 1830 – The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad completes construction on the line between Baltimore and Endicott's Mills, Maryland.
- 1893 – The worst accident on the Tralee-Dingle Railway in Ireland occurs when a mixed train carrying swine and passengers goes out of control on a downgrade; the three members of the locomotive crew died when the locomotive derailed and some passengers suffered injury.[1]
- 1899 – Stocks of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit, Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railway companies replace stocks of the Metropolitan Street Railway, Reading and Erie Railroad companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.[2]
20th century
[edit]- 1904 – Chemin de Fer du Midi opens the Quillan-Saint Paul de Fenouillet line in France.
- 1915 – In the Quintinshill rail crash, four trains collide causing more than 200 fatalities near Gretna Green, Scotland; the accident is found to be the result of non-standard operating practices during a shift change at a busy junction.
- 1941 – Canadian Pacific Railway's Angus Shops in Montreal produce its first tank as part of the war effort for World War II.[3]
- 1992 – French and German officials agree on a plan for TGV service between Paris, Berlin and Munich.
21st century
[edit]- 2006 – Dominique Perben, France's Minister of Transportation announces an ambitious multiyear plan for the refurbishment and rehabilitation of the French railway network.
