  • Rescuers and hospital staff say the death toll from Friday's crash of an overcrowded Camrail train has risen to at least 73 with another 600 wounded. • At least 174 inmates escape from a prison in Arcahaie, Haiti, after killing a guard and stealing weapons. A manhunt is underway for the fugitives with support from UN peacekeepers. (Reuters)

Science and techology

• October 2016 Dyn cyberattack
  • Security analysts state Friday's Denial-of-service attacks on Internet performance management company Dyn was perpetrated using Mirai malware-created botnets that used consumer internet of things (IoT) smart devices, such as DVRs, cable set-top boxes, routers, etc. Technology experts have been warning for years that the security included with IoTs was far too weak, or sometimes even nonexistent.
