- 1907 – The Pennsylvania Tunnel and Terminal Railroad is formed from the merger of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York Railroad and the Pennsylvania, New York and Long Island Railroad; the new railroad company is chartered to build the Hudson River tunnels that will connect the Pennsylvania Railroad to Pennsylvania Station in New York City.
- 1996 – The Atlanta and St. Andrews Bay Railroad and the A&G Railroad merge to form the Bay Line Railroad.
- 2004 – The Hiawatha Line (pictured) light rail service in Minneapolis, Minnesota, opens to the public.
- 2004 – An AVE Class 102 train reaches a new speed record of 365 km/h (227 mph) during type approval test runs.[1]
