Preveza (Greek: Πρεβεζα) is one of the prefectures of Greece. It is within the Epirus periphery. Its capital is the city Preveza. It was one of the prefectures that had any provinces. the only province is known as Nikopoli and Parga, Preveza is a non-provincial city. The city and the district has been planning a bridge or a tunnel which will connect traffic between Preveza and Thesprotia and Lefkada and western Aetolia in Aetolia-Acarnania because the ferry route is short. Preveza lies near the western part of the Ambracian Gulf.

The prefecutre was created in the 1913 when the rest of Epirus joined with Greece during the First Balkan War, it included the island of Lefkada as well, Lefkada split in 1955 and created its own prefecture and joined the Ionian Islands region.

Geography

The prefecture contains valleys, hills to its north and the ruins of Nicopolis and Cassope. The mountains of Xerovouno (Greek for the dry mountain) are in the extreme northeast.

History

In the mid to late 1990s, the construction of the bypass of GR-5/E55 began and was opened several years later along with a stretch of GR-21.

A day after the (East) Attica fire on July 29, 2005, the Monolithi fire began at around the late-day hours consuming a campground site as fires consumed forests near a campground sparking huge flames. People began to use pails and hoses to put out that outrageous fire to avoid seeing the campsite in complete destruction of flames. Properties in Monolithi were also consumed as part of the population lost their homes and some buildings. The fire lasted for a couple of hours.

Climate

Its climate is mainly Mediterranean and normal temperatures are mainly ranges from 28 to 30 C and as high as 35 C. It receives hot summers and cool winters. Sunny days are slightly shorter than the southern portion and is also rainier. Cold winters that also receives snow are in the higher elevations to the northeast.
