Project Phoenix is an upcoming squad-based, real-time strategy video game being developed by Creative Intelligence Arts. The game also features Japanese role-playing game design influences, and was described as Kickstarter's first Japan-based video game project.
The development team, self-described as "featuring AAA talent", includes staff such as former Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu. Violinist Hiroaki Yura serves as the game's director and producer.[2] The project was hoping to gather $100,000 through Kickstarter by September 2013, eventually succeeding in raising over ten times this amount. The game's estimated release date is sometime in 2018 though it is still not officially confirmed.[1]
The main website which has been down at least since early March was back online on 9 May after two months of downtime.
In Nov 2017, former employee of Area 35 Tariq Lacy accused Hiroaki Yura of scamming Project Phoenix backers as funds pledged were used instead to develop another game called Tiny Metal. Hiroaki Yura only sought outside investors when funds from Project Phoenix funds ran out. Hiroaki Yura has stated that there is a pending lawsuit against Tariq Lacy for defamation.
The current status of the project is unknown.
