Queen of Katwe is an upcoming biographical drama film directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler.[3] The film is about the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan chess prodigy who becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads.[4] The film will be produced by Walt Disney Pictures and ESPN Films, and set for a limited release in North America on September 23, 2016, followed by a general theatrical release on September 30.[5]

Production
Principal photography began in March 2015 and wrapped in July of that year.[8][9] The film was shot entirely in South Africa and Uganda.[10]
