Quinton Tyrone Caver (/ˈkeɪvər/;[1] born August 22, 1978 in Anniston, Alabama) is a former gridiron football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played American football for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL and Canadian football for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. He is a journeyman who usually contributes on special teams for the franchises with which he signs. He played college football at the University of Arkansas.
Early years
Caver was an all-state selection at Anniston High School, before moving on to the University of Arkansas. As a senior, he recorded 91 tackles (second on the team) and received All-SEC honors. He finished his college career with 24 starts and 239 tackles (30 for loss).
Professional career
Philadelphia Eagles
Caver was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round (55th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. After playing in 11 games as a rookie and registering only 11 tackles, he was waived midway through his second season on October 21, 2002.
Kansas City Chiefs
On October 28, 2002, he was signed as a free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2004, he played in 16 games (four starts), registering a career-high 32 tackles (23 solo), to go along with 2 passes defensed, 2 quarterback pressures and 17 special teams tackles (third on the team). He was released on August 29, 2005, after being limited with a left knee injury during training camp.
Dallas Cowboys
On November 9, 2005, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent, who were looking to add depth to the linebacker spot after placing Al Singleton on the injured reserve list. He was not re-signed at the end of the season.
