Miguel Ángel López Díaz[2] (born January 8, 1958), better known by his ring name Rey Misterio, Sr., is a Mexican professional wrestler , trainer and actor .[2] His "luchador" name directly translates to "King Mystery" in English. He was one of the top stars and promoters in Mexico throughout the 1970s and 1980s.[3]

Professional Wrestling Career

Early Career

Díaz first begin training as a boxer, but after his body got bigger, he took a lot of bumps and couldn't punch as good. The trainers told him that he could punch hard, so they told Díaz about wrestling and Díaz brother would take him to train for wrestling and lucha libre. On the sixth of January, 1976, Díaz finally debut as a wrestler on a show day call "Day of the Kings", Día de los Reyes.

Training

In 1987, Díaz started opening a gym with Negro Casas and Super Astro. His first class included future international stars like Konnan, Psicosis, Halloween, Damian 666 and his nephew Rey Mysterio.

Díaz is also known to have trained wrestler like Aussie Ozbone, Cassandro, Eiji Ezaki, Extassis, Extreme Tiger, Fobia, Metalika, Misterioso, Pequeno Damian 666, Ruby Gardenia, Warlock, Venum Black, and X-Torm. He appeared at WCW Starrcade 1990 where he teamed with Konnan to face Chris Adams and Norman Smiley.

Personal life

Lopez is the father of Mexican wrestler El Hijo de Rey Misterio ("The Son of King Mystery/The Son of Rey Misterio"). He is also the uncle of wrestler Rey Mysterio.[3]

He is featured in the horror film El Mascarado Massacre (or Wrestlemaniac).[4]
