Roberto Tola (Sassari, Sardinia Island - August 5, 1966) is a jazz, smooth jazz and contemporary jazz Italian guitarist, composer and teacher.

Biography

He began studying music when he was just six years old. In 1976 studies Cello in the Conservatory of Music in Sassari. Four years later continues his studies of Modern and Jazz Guitar and in 1983 established the sextet named JAZZMANIA. For this band composed and arranged all musics collected in the Album "Preludio" in 1985. From 1989 is member of the Italian Jazz Big Band named "Blue Note Orchestra", then "Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna" (Sardinia Jazz Orchestra) from 1991 to 2012, also conducted by well known Carla Bley, Colin Towns, Giorgio Gaslini, Bruno Tommaso and others more.

He played in many Jazz Festivals and in a long list of concerts in Italy and on abroad (specially Spain, China, Ireland, Russia).

In 2005 is the conductor of big orchestra for the National Competition "Canzonissima 2000" including 26 musicians, a big band with strings section.

Meantime he collaborates with many others artists and bands, as: the conductors Colin Towns, Carla Bley, Giorgio Gaslini, Giancarlo Gazzani, Bruno Tommaso, Mario Raja, Marco Tiso e Roberto Pregadio; the famous singer Jill Saward, Norma Winstone, Maria Pia De Vito, David Linx and the famous Italian jazz singer Gegè Telesforo. The trumpetists Flavio Boltro, Giovanni Amato, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava and magic Tom Harrell; great Bassist Steve Swallow, Saxes Bob Mintzer (member of Yellowjackets), Andy Sheppard, Javier Girotto, Maurizio Gianmarco; clarinet Paolo Ravaglia; pianists Riccardo Zegna and Gerardo di Lella, accordionist and pianist Antonello Salis, French accordionist Richard Galliano and others else.

Has been teaching music, modern and jazz guitar in several music schools for more than 20 years.

In 2014 collaborates for the album "On The Corner" by the famous English jazz-funk band Shakatak.

in 2016 together with excellent English jazz musicians, as Mornington Lockett, Derek Nash, George Anderson, appears in the album "Endless Summer" by the famous English singer Jill Saward and also the single M is for Manhattan.

In May 2017 releases his first solo album titled Bein' Green. Recorded between Sardinia (Italy), Spain, United Kingdom and U.S.A., Roberto Tola team-ups with some top artists, undiscussed and renowned stars of the international smooth jazz scene, as Bob Mintzer, Najee, Bill McGee, Jill Saward, Bill Sharpe and Tim Collins.
