The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kibungo (Latin: Dioecesis Kibungensis) is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Rwanda. It was erected on September 5, 1968, by Pope John XXIII. The diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Kigali.

Frédéric Rubwejanga was appointed Bishop of Ruhengeri by Pope John Paul II on March 30, 1992.

  • Mgr Joseph Sibomana (1969–1992). He is the founder of Kibungo Diocese.

  • Bishop Frederic Rubwejanga was replaced by Bishop Kizito Bahujimihojo, who also headed the Ruhengeri Diocese.

Bahujimihigo resigned in January 2010; the diocese was to be overseen by Bishop Thadeo Ntihinyurwa who was the administrator of Kibungo Diocese for almost four years, followed by Mgr Antoine KAMBANDA. Kambanda was born in Nyamata (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kigali) on October 11, 1958, baptized on November 27, 1958 and ordained priest by Pope John Paul II on August 8,1990. On May 7, 2013, he was appointed the fourth Bishop of Kibungo by Pope Francis, and inducted on July 20, 2013. His motto: "Ut vitam habeant" (" That they may have life" Jn 10,10).
