Rukshana Sultana is a renowned Indian socialite. Her mother, Zarina, was born to a liberal Muslim family. Her maternal grandfather, Mian Ehsan Ul Haque, was a judge and the Chief Justice of the highest court in the princely state of Bikaner, northern Rajasthan. He came from a landowning family, originally from Jalandhar, Punjab. Her maternal aunt (her mother's younger sister) was actress Begum Para and her maternal cousin (Begum Para's son) is actor Ayub Khan.

Rukhsana Sultana, who was also a political activist, married Shavinder Singh, who was an army officer. He is the younger brother of the novelist Khushwant Singh and the son of businessman Sir Sobha Singh of Lahore. She is also known as one of Sanjay Gandhi's close associates during Indian Emergency.

Through her daughter Amrita Singh,[1] she is the ex mother-in-law of Saif Ali Khan,[2] the son of cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the ninth Nawab of Pataudi[3] and actress Sharmila Tagore.
