Shalimar Bagh is a residential colony in North West Delhi, India.

It was built by Shahjahan more than 350 years ago, has now become one of the posh residential localities of North-West Delhi. The area generally is known as a silent posh hub. At the two main entrances of Shalimar Bagh there are banquet halls viz., Richie Rich and All Heavens. Two Shopping Mall, DT City Center and Shop-in Park, are also operational for sometime.

Shalimar Bagh consists of four blocks A, B, C and D, each of which contains several community pockets. The area has a good mix of Bungalows and Flats. Shalimar Bagh has one of the excellent social infrastructure in Delhi with numerous facilities for education, shopping, recreation and modern day living. It has more than 20 Schools including Jaspal Kaur Public School, Modern Public School, Prabhu Dayal Public School, Darbari Lal DAV Model School, Goodley Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and several other private and government-run schools.

The area has slowly but steadily developed excellent shopping facilities, with more than 10 DDA shopping arcades. Branches of several banks and insurance companies including State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, ICICI Bank, Corporation Bank, IDBI Bank, Federal Bank , Canara Bank and United India Insurance can be found here. ATM of most banks, Domino's Pizza, DT City Multiplex, Cafe Coffee Day, Big Apple Store, Archies Gallery, showrooms of various brands of clothing and accessories, the area has it all. Also, Shalimar Club has been operational for quite some time. Shalimar Bagh has more than 10 temples, three Gurudwaras and a Jain sthanak. Besides this, Fortis and Max have a super specialty hospital. The area has two petrol pumps. The area's immediate neighbour is Pitam Pura, which provides access to posh markets like TV Tower, Dilli Haat, DDA Sports Complex (Rashtriya Swabhiman Khel Parisar) and also a Municipal Corporation of Delhi managed swimming pool, multiplex and higher education facilities.

Shalimar Bagh's main speciality is the availability of numerous Baghs (Gardens).The colony has a vast district park named after Ram swaroop and Thakur dass wala bagh. Shalimar Bagh is surrounded by three urbanized villages, Shalimar Gaon on North, Sahipur on East and Singlepur village on West.


The colony has a legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha) seat of its own. As of 10 February 2015, the seat is held by Ms.Bandana Kumari of Aam Aadmi Party as she defeated Ms. Rekha Gupta of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The constituency number of the seat is 14 in the local Delhi Assembly. The legislative assembly is part of Chandni Chowk. Earlier, Shalimar Bagh was part of Outer Delhi, but after delimitation in 2008 by Delimitation Commission of India, it became a part of Chandni Chowk.

As of 16 May 2014, Dr. Harsh Vardhan of BJP represented Chandni Chowk constituency in Lok Sabha as he defeated Ashutosh of Aam Aadmi Party. Dr. Harsh Vardhan had been appointed Health & Family Welfare Minister by PM Narendra Modi led government.

The colony's postal code, which it shares with adjacent residential colony Pitam Pura, is 110088. When Shalimar Bagh was developing, it had its postal code as 110052 of Ashok Vihar HPO and prior to that it was 110033 (Azadpur). The locality contains a Police Station and a Post Office of its own now. The area is a transit point for Haider Pur water plant.

The area also has an Indian Railways—Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter which is operated by IRCTC. That complex has ample parking space which is not chargeable. It is located near Fortis Hospital and Kela Godaam.

Surrounding areas include Pitam Pura, Ashok Vihar and Rohini. The area is a foodie's delight with a lot of specialties originating from here. The last block of the area on the northern end is the C&D Block. From the Inner Ring Road, one can enter Shalimar Bagh through 3 roads: Richie Rich restaurant t-point, All Heaven's restaurant t-point (or Hyundai car showroom t-point) and through the road from Prem Bari Pul (Prerna Chowk).


The area lies on Inner Ring Road and is serviced by Delhi Transport Corporation buses, the busiest route being Route No.166 (Shalimar Bagh to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station). The area has access to Azadpur Railway Station and is within a few minutes drive of five Delhi Metro Stations, Netaji Subhash Place, Pitam Pura and Kohat Enclave on the Red Line and Azadpur and Jahangirpuri on the Yellow Line. The peak traffic hours in the area are 8:00am to 9:30pm both on weekdays and weekends. An underpass was constructed for better connectivity to and from Jahangirpuri Metro Station.

The new Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar line of Delhi Metro's Phase III, expected to be completed in 2016 is expected to give even greater access to the area. So, the area is very well connected through public transport. The new metro station will come up at Ashok Vihar crossing. It will be an underground station. Even Yellow Line is being extended and it will have 3 more new stations at Shalimar Bagh, Badli and Rohini Sector 18. This station on Yellow Line will be on the eastern side of the locality (near Haiderpur village), while the station coming up at Ashok Vihar Crossing on Inner Ring Road will be on south of Shalimar Bagh. Therefore, once Phase III is completed, the locality shall have two metro stations of its own.


Shalimar Bagh has diverse residents in terms of occupation, income levels, and religion. There is equal presence of Business Class and Salaried Class. Professionals i.e. Advocates, Doctors, and Social Activists are also contribut their presence in the locality. Major Chunk of the residents in Shalimar Bagh are Punjabi Hindu, Baniya, Kayastha, Yadav and Sindhi communities. Christians, Sikhs, Muslims and Jain also constitute a part of the population.
