Sharon Catherine Claydon (born 26 April 1964) is an Australian politician. She has been a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives, representing the Division of Newcastle in New South Wales, since September 2013.
Early years and background
The daughter of a Vietnam veteran, Claydon is a fifth generation Novocastrian who was educated at Lambton High School and completed an honours degree in anthropology at Sydney University.[1]
Career
After completing her studies, she worked within remote Aboriginal communities including the Kimberley Region before moving to the disability service sector.[1][2] In 2007 Claydon was elected as a Councillor on Newcastle City Council.[3]
Immediately prior to the 2013 federal election, Claydon worked for the incumbent Member for Newcastle, Sharon Grierson.[3]
Personal
Claydon is currently a patron of the Stockton Historical Society and has served as treasurer of the Newcastle Aboriginal Support Group.[4]
