Shelkovskaya(Russian: Шелковская; Chechen: Мохне, lit. place where is wind) is a rural locality (a stanitsa) and the administrative center of Shelkovskoy District of the Chechen Republic, Russia. Population: 11,112 (2010 Russian census);[1] 9,581 (2002 Census);[2] 7,961 (1989 Soviet census).[3]

It was founded on the place where a small Chechen village previously stood.[citation needed] Half of the former residents of that village moved up north along the Terek River, where they started a new village (it is where now the town of Kizlyar in the Republic of Dagestan stands).[citation needed] Both villages were later destroyed by the Mongols.[citation needed]
