Map of the Shinyanga Region

Shinyanga is a city located in northern Tanzania. It is the capital of the surrounding Shinyanga Region and is located at 3°39′43″S 33°25′23″E / 3.66194°S 33.42306°E / -3.66194; 33.42306. According to the 2002 census, it has a population of 92,918.

Transport

Shinyanga has a station on a branch of the Central Railway of Tanzania.

Reforestation

The region has an extremely impressive forest restoration programme which is well documented by the Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations Environment Programme and the Global Partnership on Forest Landacape Restoration. The programme features in the film Forests for the 21st Century.
