Born in Thanet, Cusden played for Kent until being released at the end of the 2006 season. He then joined Derbyshire, but was in turn released by them after making only one first-class appearance during 2007.[1]

He represented England Under-19's touring Australia in 2002/2003. He was given his first appearance for Kent in 2004 against Lancashire and with his first ball bowled, dismissed Mal Loye.
