South River is a public high school in Edgewater, Maryland. It was built in 1978 and has 2060 students enrolled currently. It received a Blue Ribbon in education. Due to recent over crowding in the Crofton, MD area, students are bused in from Crofton, in addition to Davidsonville, Mayo, and Edgewater. School instructors Chris Newman, Daniel Tasikas, and J Zivic are among the few to receive awards from The Karen Gaffney Foundation for community service and excellence in the Special Education Program₁.

Culture

Preps

Preps are the predominant social class, accounting for roughly 1/3 the population of SRHS, these notably popular individuals, are, but products of American consumerism. To call them cultured is a stretch seeing as how they consist of nothing deeper then countless days spent at the mall, Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle, cultural icons these pose, offering the newest in trends and social acceptability. Girls and guys who seek to be part of this 'trend' do so in the name of conformity and status, viewed by oblivious on lookers to be the poster child of modern society and youth but what have they to show that they are the future of success? Could it be that loud call typical of females who've succumb to such materialistic style? "Omg, you look so pretty today!" or "Omg. Where did you get that top?"? Or could it be their cunning scantly attire that is the infrastructure of this wildfire of a trend. A glistening white smile, long hair, Rainbow flip-flops, a A&F knit layer, and some white safari-lookin' shorts. "So what if i have holes in my jeans, its style?" So what? So what, Take a perfectly good pair of jeans in combination with a knife and your bare hands and one can make a $30 pair of jeans, to a $75 pair in but a matter of minutes, 'JENUIS' it is, from where is this style derived? Where is the functionality in having holes in your jeans when typically holes in a working man's jeans would require a patch? Or could it be their resentment you hold toward others who choose not to conform to this trend, Is this not the epitome of American society though? To be more concerned about your own personal prosperity that you cant even take enough time out of your busy day to ask the kid your **hole friends are making fun of if he is ok. Well i guess since that's what, we, as a nation, has come to then a picture of these california influenced egoistic, conformist, conservative dweebs should be featured in every single Public Service Announcement.
