Stefan Siegel is an entrepreneur and former model from the Italian province South Tyrol. He is the founder and CEO of the startup slow fashion web-platform Not Just A Label, which is based in London.[1][2]

Early life and education

Siegel was born in the German speaking province of South Tyrol in northern Italy.[1][3]

Siegel attended Francesco Morosini Naval School. He received his MA in International Business Administration and Economics from Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2004.[3][4][5]

Career

Siegel worked as a fashion model for brands including Prada, Gucci, BMW, K-Swiss and Calvin Klein.[1][5] He worked in finance for audit firms such as Ernst & Young and private bank Sal. Oppenheim in Switzerland.[6]

Siegel also worked for Merrill Lynch as an investment banker in London and New York within the consumer and retail market sector. He advised brands such as Gucci.[1][4][7]

Siegel has appeared on the BBC, Arte Euromaxx and Bloomberg TV.[1][8][9] He guest lectures at various colleges including Parsons, London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins.[4][7] In 2012, he gave a TED talk based on the theme "The World in the Next Ten Years" at United World College of the Atlantic.[3] He works with agencies such as the European Union, East London Tech City and The British Council.[10]

Not Just A Label

Siegel started Not Just A Label (NJAL) with his brother Daniel. The two came up with the idea for a global web platform to display locally produced wares while at Siegel's home in East London.[4] Siegel had the experience working within the fashion industry while Daniel was a web developer.[1][11] NJAL began in 2008. The brothers funded the business until it was cash positive its second year.[6][12]

As CEO, Siegel is the team lead of the NJAL staff of scouts, recruiters, trainers, marketers and web designers.[7][12] He travels to locations including Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Lebanon as a representative of NJAL.[2][7] In March 2014, Siegel was the only representative of the Western fashion industry to attend fashion week in the Ukraine amidst the political turmoil.[13]
