Steve Cowper (born August 21, 1938) is an American Democratic politician who was the sixth Governor of Alaska of Alaska from 1986 to 1990. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later served in the Alaska House of Representatives before being elected governor.[1]

Cowper served as Governor at the time of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
