The Stony Brook University School of Medicine is the medical school of Stony Brook University. The school is located in the Stony Brook University Hospital located at Stony Brook, NY.

History

About

The School of Medicine consists of eight basic science and 18 clinical Departments. Its responsibilities include the preclinical and clinical education of students in the five schools of the Health Sciences, as well as the programs of Family Medicine - Nutrition and the Program in Public Health/MPH, and the instruction of students across other schools in the University. The School provides graduate, post-graduate and continuing education degrees.[1]

Currently, SOM enrolls over 500 students.

Rankings

The 2011 edition of the U.S. News and World Report on Medical Programs ranked the School of Medicine 56th in the Best Research category and 67th in the Best Primary Care category nationally while positioned sixth in New York State.[28]
