Template:Geobox Suchdol nad Odrou (German: Zauchtenthal) is a market town in Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. Many of the first religious refugees that came to the estate of Count von Zinzendorf to begin the building of Herrnhut (beginning in 1722) originated from Suchdol/Zauchtenthal. These refugees were instrumental in renewing the Unitas Fratrum of their ancestors, today called the Moravian Church, the Jednota Bratrska, or Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine.

History

Austrian KK stamp, cancelled at the station in 1899

Until 1918, the town (German names ZAUCHTEL, before 1867 only ZAUCHTL) was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), in the NEUTITSCHEIN (Nový Jičín) district, one of the 34 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Moravia.[1]
