Tabitha Nauser (born 23 February 1992) is a Singaporean pop/R&B singer who was the second runner-up in the 2009 season of Singapore Idol (Season 3). In 2010, she was selected to represent the continent of Asia to sing the Official Theme Song of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, "Everyone". She collaborated with four other artists, American Sean Kingston (Americas), South African Jody Williams (Africa), British Steve Appleton (Europe), and Australian Jessica Mauboy (Oceania).[1] In late 2016, she released her first single, "Bulletproof". On 29 September 2017, Nauser released the single "Body Language" featuring Malaysian rapper SonaOne.[2]
Early life and beginnings
Tabitha Nauser was born in Singapore, Singapore, the daughter of Andreas Nauser, a professional Executive Chef, and Saras Nauser Naidu, a housewife. Tabitha's father is Swiss and her mother is Indian. She is the elder sister of Serena, five years her junior.
Nauser had different dreams when she was growing up. At first, she thought she would end up as a newscaster but when she realised that she could sing, she shifted her focus.[3]
Nauser's passion for music and singing started since she was very young at age and she would perform for her family and relatives during her family functions or gatherings. Over the years, her love for music had changed her taste vastly leading her to be versatile in wide range of genres such as jazz, hip hop, ballads and pop. To further her love for music, she became a member of an acoustic band at Republic Polytechnic.[4]
When Nauser's grandfather was in poor health, she wanted to show him that she could do something that makes a difference in her life. And with the strong encouragements from her younger sister, Nauser decided to register for the Singapore Idol audition in May 2009.[5][6]
During the theatre audition, she sang the song "At Last". The judges unanimously agreed that she has a great potential in singing and predicted that she would be a hot favourite in the competition.[7] "In my professional opinion, for sheer stage presence and star power, I'm going to have to go with Tabitha", said one of the judges.[8]
Nauser is known for her powerful voice.[9] Dubbed as 'the complete package',[10] she beat many of her competitors and emerged as the top three finalists in the Idol competition.[11]
Her performances during the Idol competition included "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Summertime", "Superwoman", "Spotlight", "Crazy in Love", and "Praying for Time".
Post-Idol
Nauser has performed at community shows and corporate events.[12][13] Her Post Idol appearances include performing at the Chingay Parade 2010 finale[14] with first Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah. She was nominated for Babe of the Year in 2009.
Nauser has been described as "A natural born performer with powerhouse vocals". She was selected to represent Asia to sing the theme song of the Youth Olympic Games 2010. She joined 987FM in 2015 after winning Radio Star 2013, and was also chosen to sing the 2015 Southeast Asian Games song, Unbreakable, which was also used for that year's ASEAN Para Games.[15]
